Dkt International Sexual Health and Reproductive Education Campaign

Introduction In the past year, our team spearheaded led a comprehensive initiative on sexual health and reproductive education, with the goal of raising awareness among people in eight regions and across ten campuses. The primary focus was to create awareness about contraceptive methods and fostering a healthy dialogue surrounding sexual health.

Objective

The main objectives of the campaign were

1. Comprehensive Sexual Health Awareness: Disseminate crucial information on sexual health across diverse communities.

2. Educational University Masterclasses: Conduct informative sessions at universities to promote responsible contraception.

3. World Contraceptive and AIDS Awareness Day: Combine initiatives to commemorate and raise awareness on responsible contraception and HIV/AIDS. 4. Raise Awareness of DKT Contraceptive Products: Specifically highlight and promote DKT’s contraceptive products during all campaign activities.

5. Increase DKT Market Share in Kenya: Implement strategies to enhance DKT’s market share, ensuring broader accessibility and acceptance.

6. Engaging Roadshows: Conduct dynamic roadshows to ensure widespread access to sexual health information.

7. Positive Behavioral Shifts: Drive behavior change towards responsible sexual practices.

8. Reduction of Stigmas: Work towards reducing stigmas associated with sexual health and contraception

KIBRA ROADSHOW: UNLEASHING MARKET STORMS, DISTRIBUTING SAMPLES, FACT-FINDING MISSION.

Kibera is one of the largest informal settlements or slums in Nairobi, Kenya characterized by densely populated, impoverished conditions with inadequate access to basic services such as clean water, sanitation, healthcare, and education. On August 24th, September 13th & 14th, we engaged the Kibra community with targeted awareness initiatives, fostering dialogue on reproductive health. Aiming for impact, we shared vital information and strengthened connections for a healthier future. The three day event was successful as we did manage to reach 21,400+, distributed 19,880 condoms and 9,800+ people sampled the kiss products.

SPECIAL DAY OBSERVANCIES

This was carried out in caravan to commemorate The World Contraceptives Day on 26th September,2023 in Pipeline Nairobi which is one of the densely populated areas in Nairobi and the World AIDS Day on 1st December,2023 in Eldoret. We did manage to attain a reach of 85,000+, distributed 50,000 condoms and 6,800 people sampled the kiss products.

ROADSHOWS & MARKET STORMS

Throughout November (3rd-30th), our dynamic roadshows crisscrossed diverse regions, bringing crucial messages on sexual health and reproductive rights to communities. Engaging and informative, these initiatives aimed to empower individuals with knowledge for better choices and improved well-being across the spectrum of sexual health. We did cover Rongai, Machakos, Kisii, Eldoret, Kisumu and Nakuru. We did manage to attain a reach of 220,000+, distributed 69,896 condoms and 60,000+ sampled the kiss product.

CAMPUS MASTERCLASSES

The transformative masterclasses were carried out across the nation, igniting a revolution in sexual education. From vibrant campuses to remote institutions, our engaging sessions have empowered diverse audiences. Focused on dispelling myths, promoting awareness, and distributing vital products, these masterclasses have become a beacon of comprehensive sexual health education, contributing to a safer and informed society. We covered 10 schools namely Zetech Mang’u, JKUAT Annex, UON Main Campus, Cooperative University, Kisii University, JOOUST,Moi University and Riara University.We did manage to attain a reach of 38,000+ students, distributed over 40,000 condoms and over 32,000 students sampled the kiss product

PHARMACIES, SHOPS, P.O.S

The team conducted an extensive data collection and branding initiative, visiting a wide range of establishments such as shops, pharmacies, guest houses, minimarts, bars, and nightclubs. This comprehensive effort covered various locations, including Metropolitan Nairobi Counties (Nairobi, Kiambu, Kajiado, Machakos) As well as Nakuru, Kisii, Kisumu, and Uasin Gishu’s Eldoret. We did manage to reach 178 Pharmacies, 186 shops and minimarts, 89 liquor shops and bars in different regions.

Results and Impact:

The project successfully reached thousands of individuals across diverse regions and campuses, fostering a more informed and open dialogue about sexual health. Key indicators of success include: Brand visibility. Increased awareness of contraceptive methods and their proper usage. Reduction in stigma associated with discussions about sexual health. Improved access to contraceptive resources on campuses. Demystified myths and misconceptions regarding use of contraceptives.

Moving Forward:

As we reflect on the accomplishments of the past year, we remain committed to sustaining the momentum and expanding the reach of our initiatives. Plans for this year include: Continuing workshops and seminars to reinforce knowledge and address emerging issues. Strengthening partnerships with local organizations to enhance community engagement. Developing additional online resources to keep the information up-to-date and easily accessible. Together, we can create a healthier and more informed society regarding sexual health and reproductive education.
